Eighteen NIH grantees and two intramural scientists have been selected by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to be among this year’s 120 researchers to receive this presidential award, the nation’s highest honor for scientists at the beginning of their professional careers.

On the eighth annual National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, we extend our compassion to the members of this community who are living with HIV/AIDS, and we redouble our commitment to fight the epidemic in this population, which carries a disproportionate burden of HIV/AIDS.

The third annual National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on Sept. 27, 2010, marks an occasion to reflect on how profoundly HIV/AIDS has affected gay and bisexual men. It also is a fitting time to recognize how much this group has influenced the development and implementation of strategies to prevent and treat the virus and the disease.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the lead institute at the National Institutes of Health for food allergy research, is pleased to commemorate Food Allergy Awareness Week from May 9–15, 2010. First established in 1997 by the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), a patient and family advocacy organization, this week is set aside each year to focus public attention on this growing health problem. FAAN’s theme for this year, Respect Every Bite, reminds us of the daily threat faced by people with food allergy, as exposure to even trace amounts of allergenic foods can cause allergic symptoms.
